Lifestyle changes are forever!

Today was my first day back to work after three weeks vacation. Overall I had a great vacation and managed to lose 10 lbs while on vacation, not bad hey!

I was surprised that being home but not in a normal routine was harder to stay focused than when I was travelling and managing to stay on track very well.  Don’t get me wrong, I ate healthy, stayed within my daily weight watcher points and worked out daily but when I was home I sometimes had too much fun with a few too many drinks on the deck. I know this is a life long lifestyle change and life does happen but I really noticed it over the past week. Normally I would have been happy to spend two days bar hopping with great friends but the “new” me really struggled with this. I did it and we had a blast but I was happy that it was done. Of course I love my friends and love spending time with them but it really showed me how much I have changed. The “new” me would have loved to take my friends for a hike up a mountain, boring right? Not really! My friends would have actually loved to do that with me, I just need to learn to plan our activities differently. I will always be up for one day of fun, bar hopping with my friends, but two days is just too much for me now. All our activities were my idea, I just didn’t realize when making the suggestions how much I had changed, but now I know. These same friends are coming down to take part in the Goodlife 8K Road Race to support me on my first run and weight loss journey, so they are all on-board with doing active things with me, I just need to learn to incorporate them into our weekend plans going forward.

I am now back to my usually daily routine work-out, work, drive kids, drive kids a bit more and then home. 🙂 I have great co-workers that are also my work-out buddies at Royal Roads University. In fact, Kyla (aka Drill Sergeant Beattie) texted me at 6:30 am to go do the “Stairs from Hell” this morning. I declined this time because I was set on doing a work-out with the Nike Training Center app that I use but we managed to fit in a hike at work over lunch on our beautiful campus. I also had another co-worker come to my office to see what day I could do stairs with her.  I was also invited to meet Kyla and Wendy at the gym on Thursday and Friday mornings. I think it’s cool that I am now a go-to person for a work-out buddy! What a great group I am surrounded by!

I am now only three pounds from a 100 lbs weight loss so with my past weekend activities and my goals in mind, I have decided to not attend the long awaited Beer Festival this weekend with my husband Trevor. I need time to focus on myself and reach my goals sooner, rather than later. Of course he is awesome about it and he is hoping to get a co-worker to go with him who also appreciates craft beers. I hope they have a great time and I will drive them so they get to and from the event safely.

My photo for this post is from my weekend with friends. I would be so lost without my great friends. They have been there for me at my worst times and are now celebrating with me as I make my weight loss journey a success (in progress)!

I am a strong confident woman. I am a mom of 3 three amazing children, married to my BFF of 25 years, who loves weight training, yoga, hiking, cycling, and sometimes still the odd run. I am currently completing a MA in Interdisciplinary Studies with a specialization in Leadership in Organizational Culture at Royal Roads University, which will be completed in January 2020. I am currently working in higher education for BCcampus as a Project Manager for Collaborative Projects. I lead a coaching community of practice at my workplace which I developed as part of my Masters. I dabble a bit in coaching outside of work but will likely do more as I complete my Masters. I have big goals for myself, there are no limits to what is possible.
