Surgery News!


Today I got a call from my surgeon’s office and as expected MSP has declined his request for the full body lift, Brachioplasty (arms) and the Thighplasty (legs) for me. They will cover the tummy tuck which we kind of already expected but we were hoping for more of course.  I believe my local MLA office is going to ask more questions in my support but at this point I need to move on with the plan for just the tummy tuck.

On one hand I am pretty frustrated that it isn’t approved and that they made me wait so long to find out. It’s frustrating to think that I have many more years of dealing with my extra skin on my arms and thighs, which means issues with chaffing for any real long runs. I will see how things are once I am healed from the tummy tuck but this news may mean I will only be able to run half marathons, but I won’t rule out a full yet.

On the other hand, I am feeling revealed to have an answer finally so I can move forward with at least the tummy tuck. The rashes keep me up some nights so I have to just be happy about having a date to be rid of that. This will mean that I may look a bit wonky with my extra skin running around me like a deflated tire, just dealing with the front versus the body lift, which would have taken care of it all, but I am hoping it is minimally noticeable. My tummy tuck is scheduled for May 27th but I will get my pre-op done in a couple weeks, it’s good for 3 months, that way if there is a cancellation they will get me in sooner.

If I have to stick with the May date this will mean I won’t be able to do my Tough Mudder in June, if they fit me sooner, I likely would be able to still do Tough Mudder so we will see what happens in March and April. Either way I will look forward to a weekend in Whistler; participant or spectator.

Hopefully I can sort out my hip problems in the meantime and give me some time to get back running prior to surgery. 2016 is looking like a year of rest and recovery, which is what I thought it may look like. I am hoping that if I heal up good after my surgery that I can start training this summer for the Goodlife Half but it will depend on how my post-op goes.
